- Description
- When watching the shimmer of light, various natural scenes come to mind: ripples on the water’s surface, sunlight filtering through trees, rays breaking through clouds, or reflections on a glass façade. Such phenomena captivate us. In observing this shimmer, I realized that even when the medium of light is artificial, people still perceive it as having natural qualities. This work does not aim merely to present the beauty of shimmering light, but rather to allow viewers, over time, to sense natural rhythms through their bodies and feel themselves merging with light’s fluctuations. To extract and experience this shimmer, I created a space large enough to envelop the body. Countless transparent membranes protrude from the walls like the hairs of a living organism. Light reflects off these tiny surfaces, shimmering and glimmering, forming a “prairie of light” that even evokes tactile associations. Small circular reflectors attached to the membrane tips shift in color—golden like morning light, crimson like sunset, or deep indigo of night—depending on the viewer’s position and angle. Though nearly uniform in structure, the work reveals a rich diversity of expressions. With prolonged viewing, inner memories are awakened: the sensation of wind brushing the skin, the sound of objects colliding, even imagined scents. Inner and outer sensations resonate, drawing the viewer into this perceptual field. It becomes more than a visual experience—touch, space, time, and change converge into a holistic sensory encounter.
