- Description
- Morphology II is a fundamental design exercise course rooted in the natural philosophy and morphology of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749–1832). By exploring the vast field of form, students learn the methodology of morphology and discover design themes. The course emphasizes experiencing the mechanisms of form generation, reexamining familiar shapes in daily life, and seeking their inevitability, universality, and relationship with the environment. Sanagi Students were asked to set two objects, A and B, and imagine: what if they underwent a metamorphosis like that of an insect pupa? What kinds of transformations would occur, and what would the intermediate states look like? The task was to create these “in-between states,” to create “motion,” and to create “time.” Working with pure white stone clay, students attempted to transform imagined ideas into tangible form through the movement of their own hands.
