- Description
- The 1964 Tokyo Olympics first brought “pictograms” to global attention, establishing them as a visual language of the public sphere that responded to humanity’s desire for an international common language. Among them, the “Pictoman” removed details specific to the human body—such as posture and gesture—conveying information through the purest of forms. Yet, through excessive simplification and daily overuse, these symbols may have quietly diminished our attention and sensitivity toward them. My work attempts to reinfuse these emptied forms with individuality and character, letting them perform unexpected actions. In doing so, I hope to prompt viewers to reexamine and rediscover a sense of curiosity toward these familiar signs. Through the “personalities” of these symbols, I wish for audiences to once again feel the latent possibilities between humans and pictograms.
